Magic Mouse

Confused by Computers?

If you are one of the many older people who think that computers aren't for you, then the Magic Mouse project could change your mind. Magic Mouse offers friendly one-to-one tuition for the over 50s by experienced volunteers who are keen to pass on their computer knowledge to you.

If you have relatives or friends elsewhere in the country or abroad then learning how to use email will make it quick and easy for you to keep in touch. Or you may want to do your shopping, book a holiday, or find out about local and national services. The internet makes this simple. We can even teach you how to make your own greetings cards and research your family tree.

"Magic Mouse has given my life a new focus and I can almost follow my grandchildren's conversations about their PCs, Yahoo and dot.com sites.  Even now I am looking at digital cameras and thinking 'Maybe!'"

Computer sessions at Bleak House

Sessions are on a one-to-one basis (or you can bring a friend/spouse/partner) at our offices in Gloucester City centre. The current cost is £25 for a course of five sessions (1 hour long).

We will talk to you about what you want to learn. This way we can make sure we give you the skills you want. One of our trained volunteers will spend time with you, to give you individual attention. We will go at your pace so there is no pressure to keep up with anyone else.

Computer sessions in your own home

Computer tuition in your own home may appeal to you more. A volunteer will come to your home and work with you on your own computer. Our volunteers are able to provide basic computer training and all we ask is that your computer is fully set up with internet access.

We will make an initial visit to look at your equipment and discuss with you what you would like to learn. There is a charge to cover our costs of £50 for 5 sessions of 1 hour.

Housing Associations

Some housing associations, neighbourhood projects and local authorities purchase Magic Mouse "packages" from us for the benefit of their tenants.

Volunteers needed

Are you passionate about computers and use them in your everyday life? Do you stay in touch with family and friends by email or Skype? Do you shop online, book theatre tickets, listen to programmes again, have a laugh at Utube or research interesting facts on Wikipedia? Would you like to show other people how to do some of these things?
We are currently looking for Magic Mouse volunteers to work as part of a team getting older people in Gloucestershire online so that they too can enjoy the benefits of using a computer. So if you have some time to spare (daytime, evening or weekend) and can make a regular commitment, please get in touch on 01452 422660.

Magic Mouse is a developing service and one which is undergoing change so to keep up to date, visit this page regularly.
