Fit as a Fiddle

This project, funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund, aims to encourage the over 50's to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.
So far we have been concentrating on exercising in water with 'Fit as a Fish' swimming sessions and aqua aerobics sessions held around the county. Whilst this remains Age Concern Gloucestershire's core project, we are looking to diversify, with dance next on the agenda!  Watch this space ...
Most of the 'Fit as a Fish' sessions set up so far continue at the leisure centres where they began but are now being administered by those centres. This is great news as it means people are still benefitting from the scheme but our funds can be spent elsewhere, getting more people exercising.

Water Workout

There will be a free fun 30 minute trial session on Thursday, 10 June from 11-11.30am at Cascades Leisure Centre, Tewkesbury.  If you enjoy the session you will then be able to book for the 6 week follow-on course on Thursdays at the same time for £10 inclusive.  The instructor has proved very popular at GL1 in Gloucester and is looking forward to this new class.  Don't worry if you can't swim as the session will be in shallow water.
We particularly want to encourage new people to join this class so if you would like to book a place contact  Sheryl on 01452 420929 or e-mail sheryl@ageconcernglos.org.uk.

Anyone for Racketball?

If you haven't come across it before, racketball is played on a squash court but is much gentler on the joints, using a larger and bouncier ball, than squash.  It's the game people take up once they find squash too hard on their body!
We have been approached by the South West Development coach of the England Squash & Racketball Association who wants to encourage more people to take up this sociable game.
Would you like to learn to play?
There is a possibility that free racketball coaching may be available over the course of 6 weeks in Gloucester - and if it is well supported we would hope to offer it in other parts of the county later.
If you are interested in hearing more, or you know someone who would, please call Shery, details as above.
