Fit as a Fiddle

This project, funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund, aims to encourage the over 50's to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.

Our core project within the national ‘Fit as a Fiddle’ project has been ‘Fit as a Fish’. Private swimming sessions, lessons for non swimmers and improvers, and also water workouts to music have been held around the county with great feedback. Most of these sessions are continuing, administered by the leisure centres where they were set up. This is great news as it means people still benefit from the scheme but our funds can be spent elsewhere in order to get more people exercising.

Past highlights include a successful croquet afternoon with high tea last summer and, on 30th April this year in Cheltenham’s Pittville Pump Rooms, a dance with professional instruction in styles such as salsa, tango argentino, carnival and the Charleston . That event was attended by more than 230 people with a long waiting list. As a result of its success we hope to host more in the county, so watch this space!

Free Water Workout at Dursley!

There will be a free fun 30 minute water workout and 15 minute free swim on Thursday, 16 September from 2.30 to 3.30pm at Dursley Leisure Centre, followed by refreshments and a talk. If you enjoy the session (and we're sure you will) you can book for the 6 week follow-on course from Thursday, 30 September at the same time for £15 inclusive.
The session will attract both swimmers and non-swimmers. We particularly want to encourage people who have not previously attended a 'Fit as a Fiddle/Fish' session so, if that's you, please call Sheryl on 01452 420929 to book your place as soon as possible.

Free Swimming for Over 60's Ends!

Unfortunately, owing to Government cuts, free swimming for the over 60's will end on 31 July 2010 instead of 30 April 2011.

Golf Day 22 August 2010
As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations ‘Fit as a Fiddle’ is lending support to a golf day at Rodway Hill Golf Club on Sunday 22 August 2010. So, if you’d like to get into the swing of things then give us a call!
