Age Concern Gloucestershire

Keep Your Cool

Warm summers are usually enjoyable but very high temperatures and humidity can present a risk to health and older people are particularly susceptible to heat-related illness.

Age Concern Gloucestershire offers the following advice:
  • Drink lots of fluid, which can include tea and coffee; it doesn't have to be water.
  • If you are travelling, by car or bus, take a bottle of water.
  • Indoors, keep curtains closed in rooms when they catch the sun.
  • A damp cloth on the back of the neck is very cooling.
Muscle cramps may indicate dehydration so stop and have a drink. Symptoms of heat exhaustion, which is more serious, include headaches, dizziness and nausea.

Age Concern has produced a leaflet 'Keeping cool in a Heatwave' which is full of handy hints and tips. Download your copy below.
